Brick Paver Patios are designed to look natural in your back yard oasis. The bricks, when installed by the contractors, are laid down on a bed of compacted sand with small gaps between each brick of about 1/4″ to 1/2″. These “joints” are then filled with sand to keep the pavers from shifting sideways.
Sealer for pavers are designed to enhance and protect. Another very popular aspect of a paver sealant is the ability to harden the sand between the pavers. This is called “joint sand stabilization”. The purpose of stabilizing you jointing sand is to prevent sand loss while minimizing the growth of weeds, algae, and grass.
Here are a few of our most popular sealer for pavers that will help with stabilizing the sand between the joints:
- Surebond SB-1300
- Surebond SB-7000
- Super Seal Matte, SuperSeal 25 and SuperSeal 30
- Defy Brick Paver Sealer
Adding a quality sealer to your pavers will not only protect but will keep your patio looking great for many years to come.
No, the water will still drain through the sand joints.
Will paver sealers make water run off the patio? Does water still drain through the joints?
You may need to remove the sealer and start over as it sounds like it is possible that you have what is called “poly haze” from the sand. This happens when the sand dust is not completely removed from the pavers before misting with water. Does is look blotchy/milky white from sand dust?
What is the best way to apply the sealer? We had a company come out, strip the pavers after we had our pool re-modeled. They put new polymeric sand in and then with a weed sprayer, applied a sealer. It BARELY covered anything and was obviously splotchy. We also had algae a few weeks after it was supposedly sealed. We have NEVER had green algae before so I know it was not sealed properly. Can you tell me the best way to apply the sealer? He also told us that using the non water based sealer would make our pool coping appear dark and beautiful and always look like it was wet. That is soooo not the case. I don’t know what recourse we have with them at this point. I am just ticked that these people are getting by with this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Can we buy sealer directly from your company?
We have tumbled pavers so there are places that require a lot more sand than others.
