HD-80 was designed to remove the toughest exterior wood finishes fast. HD-80 will remove even the most stubborn transparent, semi-transparent and semi-solid stains. Used alone HD-80 will effectively remove tough finishes such as CWF-UF, Sikkens, Cabot, Behr, and most semi transparent or oil based finishes.
HD-80 is a highly developed dry powder formulation that mixes easily with water. Mixing your own solution allows you greater flexibility as well as a tremendous savings. HD-80 is extremely stable in solution which allows you to mix a large batch at once to service several crews or simply mix enough for the job at hand. Either way this stability allows for prolonged storage of the mixed solution. Sold exclusively to contractors, HD-80 will be the hardest worker on your crew!
Important Note: HD-80 Stain Stripper may not fully remove Solid Color Wood Stains, Paints, Varnishes, and Excessively Over-Applied Acrylic Semi-Transparent and Semi-Solid Coatings. To remove these deck and wood stain types, use the RAD Paint & Solid Stain Stripper
Hi Todd,
No, the HD80 will not remove paint. The RAD stripper also clearly states it will not remove paint on the order page and on the product packaging.
https://www.opwdecks.com/restore-a-deck-stain-stripper.htm
No deck stain stripper will remove paint. Sorry that you read it wrong but there is nowhere on the RAD Stripper packaging or order pages stating that it will remove paint and in fact states the exact opposite.
You will have to power sand to get a paint all off.
Thanks
I don’t know how I read that then as I had researched trying to find one that did. I did not purchase through you so my angst wasn’t and isn’t with you and if that is so then I will stand corrected.
I wish I could locate the stripper that I formerly utilized as it worked on everything very well, including paint. Occasional, I’d have to reapply to a few spots where some material remained but usual it was so little that I would just spot sand the area.
It was a citrus based powdered product. Ill include a picture in case you know of it and can supply it, or know who may I truly appreciate you getting back to me promply.
The active ingredient in this product is no different than the RAD stripper or the HD80 so no, it will not remove paint. The RAD Stripper is by far the strongest one as well when you add the two addtives.
You will have to power sand if you want to remove paint.
So you are telling me that the material i utilized for years including to remove paint on at least two occasions never happened and I was just imagining it? That was my actual personal experience and the material was significantly stronger than the RAD or any material I have used before.
If I can’t find this product, then I’ll be forced to do it by sanding, but I didn’t expect to be told my actual jobsite experience never happened.
No reason to be rude. What we are telling you is that it has the exact same ingredients so it is not possible to be stronger unless you use additives like the RAD offers.
The difference is probably the coating that is being removed now compared to what you used it on prior. Some coatings or brands just cannot be stripped.
Will this work on the Sikkens Cetol SRD? Sorry not sure if the glossy version you’re mentioning is the same
Can you post some pictures of the wood here in the comments?
Thanks!
No, it will not strip this. You should sand it off.
🙁 I just don’t think sanding is an option because of how thin the top layer of wood is / they’ve taken too much off already
You can sand this like you would a hardwood interior floor.
The shiny sikkens cannot be stripped effectively. Try corn cob blasting.
The shiny varnish sikkens
Which sikkens? The shiny varnish sikkens or the dull no shine?
any suggestions for getting sikens off a horizontal log home ?
You can use HD80 on vertical log homes.
is there any reason not to use the HD-80 on a log home, all references are made to decks. the home has sikens on it now
About 8oz. per gallon of water.
Whbat would be the proper mix ratio of hd-80 to strip oil base semi transprent olympic ceder tone stain off of rough sawn ceder siding.
Apply HD80 to damp wood. Apply the brightener as soon as you are done with the HD80 while the wood is still wet. The sooner the better. Start at top and apply to entire area then pressure wash off.
Should I start at the bottom and work my way up when applying hd-80 and then rinse starting at the top and working down. I am stripping simi transparent oil based stain off of ceder siding.
Is it nessarry to apply hd-80 rinse and then apply brightnr before the wood has a chance to dry. also should I wet surface before applying hd-80
If it.s okay to allow to dry between applications should I wet surface before applying britner.
The only stripper we carry that contains Methylene Chloride is Concrete Sealer Stripper (http://www.opwdecks.com/concrete-sealer-stripper.htm).
It is a paste like product that contains additional solvents and properties that allows it to penetrate and dwell better.
Do you carry any alkali fortified Meth chloride strippers. I am getting several jobs with clear finishes that do not respond well to straight MC.
Depending on the brand of stain and amount of coats applied, it should remove 90% or more. Make sure to use the Citralic Brightener to neutralize the HD80.
On a newly stained redwood deck stained with an oil-based semi-transparent stain, will HD 80 be sufficient to remove the stain enough so we can restain with another color? Or do we need to sand as well?
Thanks
HD80 is not designed to be injected with a pressure washer. Best to use a pump sprayer to apply. After applying you can use a pressure washer to clean off. It is possible to cause damage to the surrounding areas. Best to prewet and constantly rinse any vegetation or painted siding.
If the product is sprayed on with a power washer, how is it removed? Can it be removed by power washing? Does the product harm grass or other surfaces it comes in contact with after sprayed off?
Warm water, add a couple of oz. at a time until dissolved.
What’s the best way to mix hd80. I’ve mixed it using hot water but there was still particles that had not dissolved?
One 10 pound container makes 20 liquid gallons or 8 oz makes 1 gallon.
