Do you sell any of your products locally?
Only in the Metro Detroit, Michigan area. We are an online retailer for all of the products we sell. We are not the manufacturer for any of the products. Sorry but we do not have a list of national retailers. Please take in consideration that many of these products can not be found locally. Our free shipping on all 5 gallon buckets makes our pricing extremely competitive and in most cases less expensive then your local retailer if available.
Which is the best stain or sealer for my deck?
All of our products are high end. Certain products will do better then others depending on your particular environment or type of wood that you have. If you came to our store looking for a certain brand name then we would suggest sticking with that. Please email us if you have any questions and we will be more then happy to suggest a certain brand depending on your situation.
Why is it important to have a “Tinted’ Wood Deck Sealer/Stain?
Crystal Clear sealers will not filter out UV rays for very long or at all. A transparent tinted sealer acts like sunglasses for your wood, filtering the UV rays and prolonging discoloration. You can use a clear sealer but it will gray very quickly.
Why is it important that the Wood Deck Stain/Sealer penetrate into the wood?
A film forming coating is a product that does not penetrate into the wood completely. A product that does not penetrate can result in premature peeling and or flaking. All of our wood deck stains will penetrate into the wood when applied properly.
How long do Wood Deck Stains/Sealers usually last?
Typically all of our stains/sealers for sale will last 18-36 months on a horizontal (flooring) surface and 2-6 years on a vertical (walls and railings) surface. Please take in consideration that this is dependent on your type of wood, weather, and traffic pattern.
How long does it take to receive my order?
All of our stocked items ship from our warehouse and will arrive within 2-6 business days. If we are out of stock we will notify you as soon as possible. Take in consideration that it is up to UPS after it leaves our warehouse and we can not control their delivery schedule. Please call if you have any questions. Please email us @ sales@opwdecks.com if you have any questions.
Why do our products last longer then the Stains/Sealers at the “Big Box” stores?
None of our products are available at the “Big Box” stores. The manufacturer’s of the products we sell do not want to sell to them. They prefer to keep the quality high as opposed to high volume. The products the “Big Box” stores sell are usually inferior.
Are any of your products environmentally “MPI Green” friendly?
All of the Defy Products are MPI Green friendly. Defy is extremely concerned about the environment and are years ahead in terms of product testing.
Why is it important to seal your Brick Pavers or Decorative Concrete?
The main reason that people seal their Brick Pavers or Decorative Concrete is to create an enhanced “wet” look. This will deepen the colors and add a satin to semi gloss shine. It will also protect the pavers and cement from spills, oils, and the degrading effects of the sun.
What is CretoWood? Why is it different?
CretoWood is a sealer that penetrates deep into the wood petrifying the inside so that the wood/deck will never rot or decay. This is a one time application that will stabilize the wood forever. This product is completely different from any of our other products for sale. Your wood or deck will still need to be treated with a top coat stain/sealer if you want prevent your wood from turning gray. If you are concerned with rot and decay then you should add this to your wood prior to any other finishes. This product will never need to be reapplied. It is permanent.
Are your Wood Deck Cleaners Environmentally friendly?
All of our Wood Deck cleaners are environmentally friendly.
I have a Hardwood Deck. Why is it that the stains do not last quite as long? What is the best product for my Hardwood or Ipe Deck?
Hardwood decks such as Ipe, Mahogany, Brazilian Redwood, Massaranduba, Meranti, Pau Lupe, and Teak are extremely dense. This allows for less penetration of the stain resulting in more frequent applications. We do offer stains that are specifically formulated for these difficult to penetrate woods.
I tried other products before and was not very happy with the result. What did I do wrong?
There are many reasons why products may prematurely fail. Here are the main reasons:
- A product is applied too thick or over a previous coating. A film forming coating is a product that does not penetrate into the wood completely. A product that does not penetrate can result in premature peeling and or flaking. All of our stains penetrate into the wood when properly applied.
- The deck/wood is not properly prepped for application of coating resulting in the stains not penetrating into the wood.
- New wood is not dry and/or prepped for application of stain. You cannot stain a brand new deck/wood without applying cleaners to open the pores.
- Wrong product was used for your type of wood. Certain products that we carry work very well on a specific type of wood. Please read the info thoroughly and contact us if you have any questions.
