DEFY Composite Deck Waterproofing Sealer is an extremely durable clear finish that helps prevent the return of black stains on composite decks as well as protect against the damaging effects of water, fungi, and UV radiation on composite wood surfaces. This V.O.C. compliant, water-based product is fortified with zinc nano-particles, a natural deterrent to recurring black algae stains. There are over 30 TRILLION of these zinc nano-particles per square inch that protect your composite wood by blocking out the sun’s harmful UV rays, helping protect your composite deck from color fade, moisture and fungal growth.
DEFY Composite Deck Waterproofing Sealer can be applied to all natural and composite wood surfaces.
DEFY Composite Deck Waterproofing Sealer contains zinc nano-particles that reflect the damaging Ultraviolet Rays from the sun. When you reduce the size of these zinc particles down to the nano level, they become invisible to the naked eye. These nano-particles are distributed at a rate of over 30 trillion per square inch of surface area to provide protection from the sun in much the same way as they do when used in sun blockers and sunscreen lotions. Not only will this help with prolonging the graying, but the nano-particles are highly resistant to mold and mildew, enabling you to retain the natural color.
DEFY Composite Deck Waterproofing Sealer is available in a crystal clear finish.
DEFY Composite Deck Waterproofing Sealer Uses
DEFY Composite Deck Waterproofing Sealer is designed to be used on exterior surfaces including:
- composite decks
- all natural wood surfaces
Before using DEFY Composite Deck Waterproofing Sealer, clean the deck with DEFY Composite Deck Cleaner. This will generally clean and restore previously treated surfaces to their original appearance. The surface should be recoated when graying initially starts to appear.
Is this available in 5gal pails?
Only single gallons.
I have a reddish-orange colored TimberTech deck that the previous owners installed in 2012. Whenever we walk on the deck in socks or bare feet, we end up with a reddish-orange stain on the bottom of our feet. Also, whenever we wipe up spilled water, the rag or paper towel turns reddish-orange as well. Will a sealer prevent this?
No, a sealer cannot prevent this.
Are samples of this product available to test on my trex deck?
Sorry, but we do not have samples.
hello Kevin from Spanaway Wa. i recently built a storage shed and the interior i finished with osb ,do you have any products i could use to seal this material with / I’m trying to prevent mold or mildew from forming any suggestions if you do not thank you guy
Use the Defy Extreme Clear:https://www.opwdecks.com/defy-extreme-clear.htm
how many square feet in a gallon
About 150.
I am installing a new Moistureshield brand composite deck. Their website advertises that the grade of decking I m buying will fade to its natural color (substantially lighter than when new) in six months. If I apply Defy Composite Deck waterproofing Sealer right after installation will it help delay or prevent fading for a couple of years?
No, a sealer will not prevent fading.
How come your information says Defy Extreme Deck Sealer “helping protect your composite deck from color fade” but your answer to my question if it would help delay or prevent fading was “No, a sealer will not prevent fading”. Can you explain or give more detail?
It may help it in the short term for a few months but no sealer will permanently prevent the fading that will happen eventually.
We have original vintage Trex and get tiny splinters when walking on barefoot. Will this sealer help?
No, a sealer will not lock down splinters.
what amount of coverage does 1 gallon cover?
About 150 sq feet per gallon.
Hi. Will this work on Trex Transcend product line?
If composite, yes. If solid plastic then no.
Can you use any of your stain products to slightly darken composite deck material? If so, Would this be used prior to the above sealant or instead of?
Sorry but no, we do not have stain that work on composited wood.
Will this product work on plastic decking?
Composite decking only. It will not work if 100% plastic. No sealer will.
how many sq ft will the 1 gal sealer cover
About 150 sq feet.
Hi, I have a porch with the original vintage of Trex Composite (approx 2004-5). Will this be ok on this type of deck and can you tell me if you can purchase it in Western Canada. If not I could pick it up in either Eureka Mt or Oroville Wa. via delivery or if available at stores there. I need sufficient cleaner and sealer to cover about 250 sq ft. if this product will not react to Trex. Thanks
It will work on this. There are not dealers in those locations but we can ship to Canada or any US address that you may have. One cleaner and 2 gallons of sealer for this.
I’ve got a 9 year old Timber Tech deck that’s showing considerable fading and surface deterioration. Which product would you recommend: DEFY Extreme Stain (referenced in your online article) or DEFY Composite Deck Waterproofing Sealer? Thanks.
Neither product will change the look or enhance the fading that has happened. They will seal to help from mold and prevent further deterioration. Use the composite sealer.
I have a similar question to one listed. My tree about 4 years old is redwood color and after sun and washing has turned to a faded color. I like the color after it rains, which is near original. Will this product return the Trex to near the original color or wet look.
It will not darken the color or give a wet look.

Sorry, but the manufacturer does not offer this in 5 gallon pails. Just single gallons.
Can I buy this in a five gallon pail?
I would use a cleaner first before applying DEFY sealer, but there still might be some of the old sealer left on the deck as I’m not sure all the existing sealer would be removed during the cleaning. How would I prep my deck to use DEFY knowing that another sealer is on it?
Hard to say. Really matters on the previous sealer and how it wears or comes off. In general, you cannot apply the Defy Composite sealer over another sealer.
Last year I used another composite deck cleaner and sealer, but they no longer make the sealer. How would I go about changing over to DEFY? Since you mentioned cleaning every 2 years in a previous answer, can I wait until next fall to clean and then coat with DEFY? I still have some of their cleaner left. Thank you!
Frederick, You cannot apply this over a sealer of a different brand.
I put on a clear coat sealer last year. Can I use your clear coat sealer over what I used last year? I had to apply two coats when wet. The name of the product is called “COMOSITE DECK SEAL” It sounds like your product is the same type!? Does your sealer penetrate or just coat. I’m looking for a penetration type. Thank you , Fred
Does this sealer add any color to composite decking? My deck has faded. When it rains, the wet deck seems to be close to the original color, which I like. Does this product help to restore that at all?
Help! I have just run out of Defy PENETRATING WATER REPELLeNT WOOD FINISH IN A COLOR CALLED “Coastal Cedar.” Can you sell me some or tell me where to buy it in the Waynesville, North Carolina area. A one gallon jug is all I need right now, but would buy 5 gallons if necessary. If you no longer carry that brand name, can you sell me something similar in the same color? My phone number is 828 926-8197, or my cell is 850 443-7763. Thanks, Gary Clarke
We are an online retailer for products. We do not have a store in Grand Rapids.
